About Us

In the world of robotics, the Iron Eagles were able to emerge from the label of “rookie” and evolve into a successful team. FIRST Robotics introduced the Iron Eagles to new challenges, which the team graciously accepted. The birth of team 1219, the Iron Eagles, took place in the year of 2003. FIRST Robotics had always encouraged the new talents of our team and had supported us during our flight to success. The main objective of our team is not just to win but to look beyond the competition by showing team spirit. Our Team is very proud of its diversity. With members from many different ethical backgrounds bringing forth different opinions and outlooks which is exactly what makes our team unique. Our team is divided into sub teams that way we can manage to work in areas of interest and share the load equally.

Our team believes that we are all potential role models as we embody all of the attributes of a good leader. We think that a role model should have the potential to influence others and keep them on target. We have always worked hard to improve upon our previous mistakes and have developed skills that will allow us to achieve success. We are very keen on spreading our knowledge and the message of FIRST. Some of our members have hosted workshops and road shows for middle school students in order to promote robotics, while others volunteered to do presentations dealing with the main concepts of robotics. Team 1219 encourages the pursuit of the understanding of science and technology, for we know that the future involves around these two objective areas of studies.

A very important aspect of our team is combine science and technology together and to do so we have been endorsing the FIRST Lego League (FLL) for the past four years. We believe that educating the children of today is the main key to success tomorrow, which is mainly the reason we have been holding FLL competitions every year. A month prior to the FLL competition, every member of our team commits to a duty and unfortunately the VEX and FLL are planned on the same day so not all our members can volunteer at the FLL. But with a few members and two supervisors, who work extremely hard in the 10 hours, make FLL possible for the students. We also hosted the FIRST Tech Challenge 2009 (FTC) Championships, which allowed us to contribute to the future of FIRST.

Emery’s mentorship program has helped us shine in our true colours. We were very delighted to have Muny Tram, the captain team 1219 for the previous two years, return to help us become even more successful. Like many of our preceding mentors, he is a co-op student from the University of Waterloo. We were also very lucky to have our graduate alumni take out time to come back and help us plan, design and build the robot on weekends. Thanks to all of our teachers, members, families and sponsors for always encouraging us when it came to preparing for the FIRST competitions.

Emery C.I was known as a sports school in the Finch area and we now have made a huge leap towards science and technology by changing the culture within our school. Our school is one of the few that is very lucky to have the Cyber Science program, where science and technology is eminent, furthering the mission of FIRST. We are grateful for the sponsorships from Apotex Inc., Humber River Regional Hospital, University Of Toronto and TDSB who very strongly support our team. They have enables our team to explore technology in the field of medication which has enabled us to grasp a better understanding of the use of technology as a whole. We appreciate all of the support and without them, we would not have been able to spread our wings and fly.

The journey of our team, the Iron Eagles, has been full of ups and downs. We as a team have been able to look at the “Big Picture”. Our team has achieved great success throughout the previous years thanks to FIRST. We believe and have never given up even when times get tough. After all, our motto is “Winners never quit and quitters never win”. Our team has learned to overcome the conflicts that we are presented with by being optimistic about the future. Our passion for spreading the mission of FIRST makes us unique and potential leaders.
