About FIRST
The acronym FIRST stands for: “For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology.” The organization was founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, to develop an interest in the students for science and technology. FIRST seeks to promote teamwork and collaboration among engineers and encourages competing teams to remain friendly, helping each other out when necessary: “gracious professionalism.”
The main vision of the FIRST organization is to spread the message of Science and Technology across the world by means of education and competition. This way many competitions are organized around the North America for Robotics Teams to participate and compete against each other in a friendly environment. It includes competitions such as the the FIRST Robotics Competition, the FIRST LEGO League, and the FIRST Tech competitions. The mission of the FIRST organization has been supported by many, such as NASA. Further, with each passing year the vision of FIRST has grown, from the smallest innovation to a big step in nanotechnology, FIRST has contributed a lot to the technological world.
FIRST has not only given the students a platform to succeed in the field of science and technology, but has also opened new path to development for the technological world as well. This shows that the involvement of FIRST has a very immense effect on the “technological thinking”of todays world. For all these reasons, we, Team 1219, salute the efforts that the FIRST organization has put in to encourage and promote Science and Technology in the lives of the new generation. Way to go FIRST!
